Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking official said the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
